Plans by the UK’s Conservative Party to introduce a ban on live exports of farm animals and suggestions that they should be slaughtered at the closest abattoir have been heavily criticised.
An Australian animal welfare group has called for the heads of the country’s political parties to give a personal guarantee there will be no more cruelty in the live export trade.
The Australian government has once again come under fire over live exports after a news report revealed that exported breeding cows and sheep are suffering abuse in the Middle East.
